NCAA Eligibility Information

What is the NCAA Eligibility Center?
The NCAA Initial-Eligibility Center is the organization that determines whether prospective college athletes are eligible to play sports at NCAA Division I or Division II institutions. The Eligibility Center reviews the student athlete's academic record, SAT or ACT scores, and amateur status to ensure conformity with NCAA rules.

When should students register with the Eligibility Center?
The NCAA recommends that student athletes register with the Eligibility Center at the start of their junior year in high school. There is no registration deadline, but students must be cleared by the Eligibility Center before they receive athletic scholarships or compete at a Division I or Division II institution.

How do students register with the Eligibility Center?
Students can register online at www.eligibilitycenter.org Students will have to enter personal information, answer questions about their athletic participation, and pay a registration fee. The website will then prompt them to have their high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores sent to the Eligibility Center. Entering a code of 9999 as one of your SAT college codes, will release scores directly to the NCAA. Visit the DVHS Athletic Director or Mrs. Campbell in Counseling for more information.

Extra Tips

  • Every student-athlete who is considering college athletics should download and carefully read the NCAA’s Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete, available at eligibilitycenter.org click on resources.
  • The NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete explains terminology such as the differences between an unofficial versus an official visit. The guide has specific recruiting rules and timelines by sport and by grade level. Division I and Division II have different rules when it comes to recruiting and scholarships.
  • If you have not already done so, senior student-athletes considering college athletics should register with the NCAA. Go to eligibilitycenter.org and follow the online directions, pay the fee, and give the release form to our Registrar, Mrs. Ainworth, so she can send in your transcript for evaluation. To complete the NCAA registration process, you will also need to send official test scores from the SAT or ACT by coding in 9999/NCAA as the recipient.
  • To meet initial eligibility requirements for NCAA Division I or II, students must satisfy the core course requirements by completing a sequence of math, English, science, social science and elective courses.
